Hurricane Bay​

Sportsman's Cove is located on San Carlos Island.  This island was formed when a major hurricane in 1926 separated it from Fort Myers and wiped out the road. This storm created a need for another small bridge to link this island to the mainland and to Estero. Hence the name "Hurricane Pass" which opens to Hurricane Bay. The island of San Carlos is named for the great Calusa (Caloosa) chief, Carlos who valiantly tried to fight the Spanish takeover of his lands.  San Carlos Boulevard and San Carlos Bay are also named for this brave chief.
